Greener House Contest:

DaVinci Quest has launched an open international innovation competition with the purpose of renovating houses to make them more environmentally friendly, more intelligent and safer to live in.

The Contest is being be held in the City of Longmont, Colorado, United States.  This Host City was selected to take advantage of the unique ClimateSmart program of Boulder County that provides financing for qualified renovations.

Teams will compete for two prizes - a Davinci World Prize of $1,000,000 to $5,000,000 if a Team fully meets the Contest criteria or the DaVinci Achievement Award of $500,000 to the Team that comes closest to meeting the criteria.

The preliminary criteria to win the Contest is as follows:

• Reduce energy consumption to less than 470,000 Btu's (137 KWh's) of energy/month per person (20% of current United States average)
• Produce and store energy in an amount of more than 7.5 million Btu's (2,200 kWh's) of energy/month (100% of current United State average for a family of four)
• Reduce water consumption to less than 1000 gallons/month per person
• Reduce waste (non-recycled) to less than 30 pounds/month per person In addition, each Team must install an electronic device that enables the Homeowner to control energy and water consumption as well as communications within the home and enable communications to the local community safety departments.  See Official Rules for full details.
